Creating content around Second Life always brings exciting opportunities, but sometimes they also lead to unexpected surprises … like a 3-hour-plus long video series!
Initially, I didn’t anticipate the length, but in hindsight, with such a diverse panel of participants and rich discussions, I really should have seen it coming. I had even invited a few more contributors who, unfortunately, couldn’t make it. Still, I’m deeply grateful to those who did. Their perspectives truly enriched the conversation, and I encourage you to watch the videos in full because every single view shared is worth hearing.
One of the most fascinating parts was observing overlapping thoughts and opinions across different participants. It goes to show how shared experiences connect us, even in a platform as vast and multifaceted as Second Life.
I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude. First and foremost, a huge thank you to Philip Rosedale, the visionary founder of Second Life (Believe it or not, some people don’t know who he is, so it’s essential to highlight this). Philip, your willingness to join the discussion and share your insights was invaluable. I’m sure your words will resonate with many.
A heartfelt thanks also goes out to Draxtor and Carrie, who carved time out of their incredibly busy schedules to participate during one of the most hectic times of the year. Your contributions added so much depth to the dialogue, and I’m truly appreciative.
Now, let me introduce the amazing lineup of participants who joined the discussion. While I may not know everyone personally, their thoughts and experiences as residents of Second Life made this project even more compelling. Here’s a bit about each of them:
Part 1: Creativity and Community
Onyx: A creative soul who dabbles in writing, reading poetry, and singing within Second Life. Keep an eye out for future collaborations already in the works!
Clownie is An Aussie resident and talented photographer in Second Life. I’ve known Clownie for a few years and have always loved the humour he portrays in his Flickr pictures … he is a clown, after all! Interestingly, we had never spoken until this project, and of course, it was the day I encountered audio problems. Unfortunately, only his voice was recorded, which is a shame because our discussion was incredibly entertaining. But don’t worry, I’ll get him back in the studio as he loves a good chat.
As the founder of Second Life, Philip Rosedale’s vision and pioneering ideas laid the foundation for what has become a vibrant and enduring virtual world. Hearing his reflections on where we’ve come and where we’re headed was nothing short of inspiring.
Bolly Coco is a French vlogger who creates content for the French Second Life community, though she often speaks in English in her videos. Bolly’s fun, inspiring personality shines through in everything she does, and she always has the kindest words. She is the one who suggested I get in touch with Adore.
Adore is the creative mind behind the video series “Adore’s Next Top Model.” Adore is a male resident with a female avatar, and his/her show is an entertaining break from the countless shopping event videos. Highly recommended.
A Second Life mentor and much more, Jolie joined to share her thoughtful perspectives and experiences.
Part 2: Behind the Scenes and Shared Stories
Andy is a key member of the Cinna team, an award-winning club in Second Life known for its innovative virtual entertainment. Cinna hosts live events with DJs spinning an electrifying mix of trance, techno, house, electro, and progressive sounds.
Val: Always up for a chat and a bit of mischief, Val enjoys exploring the world of Second Life and has a keen eye for photography within the platform.
As the founder of Zooby Babies and the creator of the most incredible Animesh puppies in Second Life, Carrie Tatsu’s contributions showcase her unparalleled innovation and dedication to enhancing the virtual world experience.
Joining all the way from Belgium, Riips is a DJ in Second Life who brings energy and creativity to the virtual music scene.
Hari Sutherland, Lillian, and Charlotte: Hari is an author in real life who has recently published a Second Life coffee table book under his Second Life pen name. Lillian and Charlotte are active residents of Second Life who enjoy roleplaying and mentoring, among other activities.
Part 3: Unique Perspectives and Fun Conversations
Bars: The founder and creator behind the store High V, Bars designs interactive items and simple games that can be enjoyed solo or with one or two others.
Known for his exceptional storytelling and advocacy for Second Life, Draxtor Despres’ voice always brings a layer of thoughtfulness and creativity to the table.
An unusual guest for this video, The Obscure Nerd is a Second Life troll, but not the rude, disruptive kind. His content is entertaining, and he enjoys starting random conversations while donning a quirky, uniquely dressed avatar. Though he only logs in every few months, his perspective adds a fresh take on why Second Life continues to intrigue even casual users.
For some participants, I don’t have much background information to share, but their contributions speak volumes on their own. I encourage you to dive into the videos and experience these incredible discussions firsthand.
While the videos may be long, they represent some of the voices and experiences within Second Life. Whether you’re a seasoned resident or someone new to this virtual world, there’s something for everyone to learn and enjoy.
Second Life isn’t just a place you log into—it’s a world you build, a story you live, and a community you grow with. – Pris
Wrapping up this incredible journey, I have to say it was an absolute blast talking to everyone who joined. Each participant brought their unique personality and perspective, highlighting the amazing diversity within Second Life. It goes to show that we come from all walks of life, with different reasons for being here, and we each find our own ways to enjoy and contribute to this virtual world.
If you’re curious about anything we discussed, don’t hesitate to drop your questions in the comments. And if you’re a part of Second Life, feel free to jump in and share your answers too to keep the conversation going!
